of the Chalukyas, also known as the Solanki dynasty which ruled over Gujarat
for about three and a half centuries (950-1300AD). The Solanki dynasty
witnessed a new peak of power and prestige under the rule of Jayasinha
Siddharaja who ascended the throne after his father and King Karna at a very
young age in 1092-93. He adopted the title of Siddharaja at the time of his
coronation.
Jayasinha was a brave warrior and military commander.
After a consolidation of power and position as a king in the state, he carried
out many military campaigns for the territorial expansion of his state. He
subdued the Chauhans of Sakambhari but later as a good diplomat, he developed
friendly relations with them by marrying Princess of the Chauhans. King
Arnoraja of Chauhans suffered defeat from King Jayasinha. King Jayasinha got
phenomenal success against the Paramaras of Malwa. He carried out a successful
military campaign against Malwa and vanquished a large part of Malwa by 1137
AD.
After his decisive conquest against the Paramaras of
Malwa, Jayasinha assumed the title of ‘Avantinath’ (Lord of Malwa). Jayasinha
also subdued the Chandelas of Bundelkhand. Actually, after his Malwa conquest,
Jayasinha annexed a large part of Malwa into his state, bringing the Chandelas
in direct contact with Jayasinha due to the shared territorial boundary. Thus
the territorial extension of Gujarat state into Malwa led Jayasinha to a
conflict with the Chandelas of Bundelkhand. Jayasinha also vanquished Aabhir, a
minor ruler in the Saurashtra region. In brief he got great military success in
all directions of his kingdom, resulting in territorial expansion and secured
frontiers of his state.
Jayasinha’s kingdom extended up to Bali in Jodhpur and
